Vancouver-based Rob Feenie is executive chef of the Cactus Club Cafe chain of restaurants, leading his team with a passion for simple dishes using fresh, sustainable and local ingredients. He is the first Canadian to win Iron Chef America, in 2005.

His first product for Canada’s Own is our Kale Vegetable Barley Soup. “It’s very hearty with many layers,” he says. “Kale brings strong flavours and textures to dishes and it is very healthy, so I am really enjoying incorporating it into dishes I make for my family.”

Working with the finest ingredients possible is key for Feenie, and for that, he goes right to the source. “Farmers and producers are critical to Canada’s food culture and to how we define ourselves as a nation,” he says. “Every time I visit with them, I learn something new, whether it is a new technique they are using or a debate we have about the way they grow their products, there is always something new,” Feenie says. “I really appreciate their passion for the food they grow.”
