The season of giving is upon us! This season can come with a lot of stress when trying to plan out perfect gifts, battling store crowds and the hustle of wrapping. It is important to take some time this season to think about what the season is truly about – giving, connecting and being present.
We’ve gathered up some of our favourite ways to give back this holiday season and we’d love to hear if your family has any others!
Sponsor a family – For many families, this season can be financially stressful, especially when there are children involved. Consider sponsoring a family to help make their children’s Christmas.
Donate blood – Being thankful for your health is something definitely not to be taken for granted. Many people aren’t as fortunate and blood banks are always looking for donations. Consider bringing your family to a local blood bank to donate some blood.
Buy locally – Instead of hitting up a big box store, consider purchasing locally. Purchasing from small, local stores gives back to local families and your community. Often you can find unique gifts that you can’t get anywhere else either! Many local retailers offer more eco-friendly, conscious and ethical gifts too. We have some local, sustainable gift ideas on our blog.
Volunteering – Think about bringing the family to volunteer at a local food bank, Christmas Cheer or shelter. It’s a great way to spread Christmas cheer!
Purchase a conscious gift – There are many charitable organizations that offer conscious gifts for the holiday season. Does your family love animals? Consider “adopting” an animal through WWF Canada.
